Blessing Blankets

About 18 months ago we took the girls in to get pictures taken of them in their blessing dresses. I've always regretted forgetting to bring the blessing blankets that my mom spent hours and hours making. My mom has made a blanket for each of her kids to use for all of their babies. So when she found out I was having twins, I'm sure this is what she was thinking, "oh crap". She claims she never uses that word but you know that's what she was thinking because those blankets take so long to make. Anyway, I was looking at a friend's blog and she recently blessed her babies and took pictures of them laying on their white blankets. I thought about putting the girls' blessing dresses back on them to take a photo but I figured they might be a little small. So I put these dresses on them and took some pictures of them holding their blessing blankets. I didn't have very creative ideas to display the blankets but I thought these were cute. Thanks Mom for making me two blankets.







I should also mention that Ryan's mom so graciously made TWO blessing dresses.

Making a Scene

Yesterday we went to the mall. I won't talk about how the girls threw the biggest fit ever in the history of fits... in front of millions of people because they didn't want to leave the fountain.... and how I'm never going back there by myself. I just want to talk about how the girls get so much attention whenever we go out in public. Walking around the mall, the girls commented on everything they liked by saying "cute, cute". They stood in awe looking at a male mannequin with no head. In unison the girls were chanting "CUTE" over and over again. Two old ladies walked by and said "he IS cute, and YOU'RE cute". The girls just draw so much attention to themselves not only by just being twins but by doing things like this. ...and throwing tantrums in the middle of the mall doesn't help either. I feel like I can't go anywhere without making a scene.

Half Marathon

With much persuasion, Ryan ran the half marathon with two friends on Saturday. It was very exciting meeting them at the finish line. Here we are waiting....patiently.

More Cute Stuff

I am totally obsessed with writing about the babies. I'm pretty sure it's because I'm with them all the time. The girls have been doing tons of really cute things lately. They are starting to really love to play and interact with each other, and when I'm not around they are sooooooooooo sweet to each other. So, here are all the cute and sweet things that the girls have done lately.

The other day they went into my bedroom and closed the door. I heard them from downstairs laughing hysterically. I only managed to record a tiny bit of the laughter before it died down. It's pretty cute though.



They've started saying, "hold hands, hold hands". They grab each other's hands and walk off together. They hug all the time and give each other high-fives too.




I can't believe how smart they are getting. We have a puzzle with shapes on it and the girls can name the basic ones. I was quizzing them by pointing to each shape, "circle, oval, triangle,..........kite". Kite??? I can't believe that they figured out that a kite is the same shape as a diamond. They JUST learned the word kite. I was so impressed. I didn't even know that they knew what an oval was.

Bath time is always funny. They love to fill up these little plastic bottles and empty them into little plastic cups and then line them up on the edge of the bathtub. They may have a future in bar-tending. Just kidding. I took a video of it but the girls are kind of naked so I decided not to post it.

Also, in the bathtub, Ava tells Lola to "yay down". So Lola gets on her tummy and Ava proceeds to pour water on Lola's back. When I figured out that Ava was saying lay down I couldn't stop laughing.

As I got to the top of the stairs Lola gives me a guilty look and she frantically says "clean up". She had dumped out all of the puzzle pieces and I think she thought I was going to be mad.

Another funny thing that the girls constantly say is "haircut". I wonder where they've heard that?

One more thing that I just thought of is when they say, "eeeewwww, gross, bugs".

Tiny Update

Just thought I would update everyone on some progress we've made here.

Potty training....I didn't think it WAS progressing but I've started doing something that seems to be working. When the girls wake up in the mornings I take their diapers off, put a few towel down on the floor, and make the two potty-chairs very accessible. They love to just sit on the potties and watch tv. Ava is doing great, I wouldn't be surprised if she is diaperless in the next few weeks. I wish you could see her face after she is successful. She jumps up and turns around and claps and yells "yay". Lola likes sitting but I don't think she has actually gone yet. (No accidents at least)

Treadmill update.....I am doing much better. 20 minutes is no problem now, but I haven't pushed myself beyond that yet. Ryan is running the half marathon on Saturday so he wins!

I should have posted this picture (because it is awesome) under the 'uncle of twins' post a while ago. Better now then never. This is the official Uncle of twins.

Independent

The girls are becoming very independent lately. They want to feed and dress themselves and they don't want any help. This picture is blurry (we really need to get the auto-focus fixed) but it's the best picture. Ava has two legs in one leg hole and Lola is inventing a new way to put pants on.

Old Pictures

We took these pictures using a web cam when we lived in Logan a few years ago. We used to waste a lot of time taking crappy pictures on that thing. I've been wanting to use this cool filter on 'photoShop" that makes pictures look like an old newspaper. I totally love these face-shots now because it covers up the graininess.

Dread Locks

Ava has a slight problem with her hair and it's not just in the mornings. This picture WAS taken in the morning, but even an hour after her bath it starts frizzing out like this again.

I thought these candles looked cool. Yesterday I decided to clean out a cooler of disgusting rotten potatoes that had been sitting in our pantry for probably months. Well, it stunk up the whole house so I got every candle we had to try to cover up the horrible smell. It kind of worked but the bleach I used to wipe up the floor over powered the candles anyway. By the way, (this is how I've been describing the smell of the rotten potatoes), think of the worst smell that you could possibly imagine.....I would rather smell that than what I smelled that day.

High-Tech Digital Girls

We already know that Lola and Ava love electronics but this just proves it. We were getting ready to get in the car to go to play with my friend Arisa and her kids. I told the girls to go get a toy to play with in the car. They both ran to get their toys and Ava came back with a keyboard and a cell phone. I died laughing. Lola's toy choice doesn't have anything to do with electronics but I thought it was funny too... The day before, we were looking through some ads and Lola saw a picture of Bert, Ernie and Cookie Monster toys. I ripped out that page for her and didn't think too much about it. Out of all the toys we have Lola chose a piece of paper with Cookie Monster on it. haha

Little Mishaps

We've had a lot of little mishaps over the past two years. To refresh your memory, spilled nail polish on carpet, finger painting with yogurt on the couch, entire boxes of cereal and/or crackers dumped out, perfume and lipstick incidences, shampoo bottles squeezed out onto the bathroom floor and then skated on,...there's probably more but we'll save those for another time. I want to write about the recent 'oopsies'. The house is pretty much baby-proofed but every once in a while the girls get a hold of something and become little vandalizers. The other day I walked into my room and they were destroying a cassette tape that they found in my night stand. It was 'Pocahontas' in Polish that Brent brought back from his mission for me. Well, instead of getting mad I took pictures.




The other recent mishap was my fault....(Now that I think about it, they were ALL my fault). I was rushing to get the girls ready to go to the store. We went to Costco and then came home. When we got inside the house I started taking Ava's shoes off and noticed that I had put a shoe on the wrong foot. Then I looked at Lola and she had one wrong shoe on the wrong foot too. It took me a second to figure it out but I had given Ava two left shoes and Lola two right shoes. They didn't even seem to notice or complain. This could only happen with twins...or if you had two pairs of the same shoe.


(This has nothing to do with shoes, I just thought it was cute how they lay down to color)

Our Cat and A Momentous Day

Our cat, Gemma, has followed us to the park TWICE now. She walks with us the whole way there and then she climbs on the jungle gym and slides down the slides. It is really weird. Anyone who sees Gemma doing this might think she's a dog because cats don't usually like that kind of entertainment....do they?....do dogs like that kind of entertainment?

Well, yesterday was definitely a momentous day. Ava used the potty for the first time. I was getting their bath ready, so they were running around naked. Ava said "poopoo" and started running away. I grabbed the potty-chair and chased her down. She sat down and went number 1. I was freaking out at this point. Then she ran away and a few minutes later came back and sat down on the potty all by herself. You could tell she was concentrating and then there it was...number 2. Unbelieveable!!!! Don't get too excited though, both Lola and Ava had accidents about 45 minutes later. I got a little too excited and put panties on them. I kept telling them to sit on the potty but the one second that I was gone Ava wet her pants and then Lola pooped hers. Well, we'll keep trying.

The girls let me take some pictures of them for the first time ever. So I have about a million cute pictures that I'm about to post. Hope you don't get bored because I couldn't choose so I picked them all.
